Harvest 2010 - Perfect Pinot Gris

This afternoon our vineyard staff hand-picked the Pinot Gris grown in our Home Vineyard.

Our viticulturalist, Colin Ross, is thrilled with the quality and flavour of the fruit.

"Pinot Gris isn’t a variety known for having good varietal definition; it is usually very fruit-forward. It's a real winemakers wine, often it is the winemaking that makes this variety interesting. We have grown this Pinot Gris like we do our Pinot Noir - with very low crops. As a result this fruit is has got unusually intense concentration and texture. I can't wait to see the wines that come from this!"

Seresin Talk

In the last couple of weeks, we have been getting some good coverage on the internet - here are a couple of interesting snippets for you...

Recently, our winemaker Clive met with Jayson Bryant from Wine Vault TV, to talk all things biodynamic. Jayson has put a couple of videos on their website of them talking and tasting some Seresin wines. In the first video, Clive and Jayson taste two of our Pinots - Leah and Rachel. And then in the second video they taste our 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, Reserve Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris.

And it seems our Gewurztraminer is proving popular in the UK. Old and New World is a wine blog in the UK dedicated to finding the best wines from the old and new world. They publish a red and a white 'wine of the month' and the Seresin Gewurz was the white for February! They say it 'should be enough to win converts' of non-Gewurz fans, and 'gives Alsace a run for its money'. Click here to see the rest of the post.

Enjoy!

Pinot Gris

Writing in MindFOOD, we enjoyed Joelle Thomson's tip of the hat to the 'Southern Man' ad campaign, when describing the 2008 Seresin Pinot Gris:

‘It's a hard road finding the perfect pinot gris and here is one of the very few that stands out from the crowd in style, body, taste and sheer drinkability. This is a stunner from cinematographer Michael Seresin's Marlborough vineyard, which is steadily being converted to biodynamic. It's worth every cent. Ignore the others.’

If you don't want to take Joelle's advice to 'ignore the others', some recommendations from Seresin winemaker, Clive Dougall, include Pinot Gris from Escarpment in Martinborough (for a big wine) and Aurum and Lamont from Central Otago as nice examples in a more delicate way.

Please email us if you want advance notice of a special Pinot Gris we made in 2008 - less than 300 bottles made, to be released in October 2008.

'If only all pinot gris was this interesting'

Our Pinot Gris received a couple of nice reviews from 'across the ditch' over the weekend.

Huon Hooke selected the wine as his Best Import in the Sydney Morning Herald.

If only all pinot gris was this interesting. But it’s not everyone’s cuppa. Very rich and multi-dimensional, it’s opulent, powerful and loaded with flavour. Barrel-fermented, high alcohol (14.5%) and heavily worked.' 95/100

Writing in Sunday Life, Sally Gudgeon had this to say.

‘A rich Marlborough gris with striking fruit purity and length. The vineyard is biodynamic and six months in old oak adds impressive texture. Serve it with Thai Fish cakes.’

Dish and Wine Match to Dive For

It has been great to see Steve Logan and Al Brown back to their on-screen best in the new series of Hunger for the Wild. In an episode a couple of weeks ago, they dived for scallops in the Marlborough Sounds and prepared a mouth-watering dish: Seared Scallops with fresh corn and red capsicum salsa. Click here for the recipe.

The chefs' recommended wine match was the 2006 Seresin Estate Pinot Gris. If you would like to try the match for yourself and need to buy a bottle or two, email us. We can also assist with the Lemon Oil called for in the recipe, but you'll have to dive for your own scallops, sorry.
And don't forget to watch Hunger for the Wild, Saturdays, 7pm, TV One.
